Theater Bio
THEATRE BOARDS, SERVICE & PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT
One of my most rewarding theatre experiences was working with the Virginia Avenue Project, a MacArthur Genius Grant-recipient organization led by Leigh Curran. The company brings together actors, writers, and directors to mentor at-risk youth through playwriting, performance, and production, often culminating in full-scale productions featuring well-known professional actors at venues such as UCLA's Little Theatre and the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre. I taught weekly after-school classes through the Police Activities League (P.A.L.) in Santa Monica and participated in the One-on-One program at SOKA University and in Ojai, helping students write, direct, and perform their original plays. The work explored profound and often challenging subject matter that was consistently inspiring and deeply rewarding.
Another highlight was spending ten years with Playwright's Kitchen Ensemble (PKE), founded by Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years). Every Monday evening at the Canon Theatre in Beverly Hills, and later the Coronet Theatre in Hollywood, rotating casts of actors and celebrity guests presented staged readings of new plays, many of which later received stage or screen productions through Patchett Kaufman Entertainment. During my time with PKE, I performed in hundreds of staged readings alongside acclaimed actors including Peter Falk, Gena Rowlands, Charles Durning, Joe Mantegna, Steve Martin, and many others.
I also served eight years as Secretary of the Board for AIRS-LA (Audio Internet Reading Service of Los Angeles), an organization serving the blind and visually impaired. My work included interviewing ophthalmologists about emerging vision research, co-hosting the Braille Challenge with founder Max Flehinger, producing podcasts (including one with Annie Potts), recording hundreds of news stories and articles, and supporting community outreach. It was a privilege to work alongside legendary voice actress June Foray, who generously volunteered her time to the organization.
From 2014–2017, I served on the Board of the Abingdon Theatre Company in New York City while also performing in numerous productions on both company stages. I served on several committees, helped organize annual fundraising events at the Edison Hotel Ballroom and Espace, participated in weekly playwright workshops, and performed in more than 50 staged readings of new plays, many of which advanced to full productions.
